I have posted the latest floor plans.

I think the only change to the 2nd floor is that we rented another space. Only two left now until we get more of the space upstairs that is currently rented to the previous tenant. They will be leaving in one to three months if we want the space. I think we will and have told the landlord so but it will take some time.

So for now if you want one, you will need to act soon.

Here's the first showing of the first floor.

I have another floor plan of the separate building out back. Maybe we should call it Australia. Or maybe not. Anyway, this plan is very rough because we haven't even been able to measure it yet. Today I got to go inside and look around. It's going to be great with an auto bay and a welding and plasma room.

Today we got a quote for the upstairs sheet rock. They will start the job on Friday or Saturday. This means we could be painting in a week.

The two big cement blocks that were blocking our drive in doors were removed today. Next they need to fill in the big holes they left with cement. Not sure when that will happen, but hopefully soon.

Matt was there again tonight and is expected again Thursday night at 5 for more framing fun. If you've never installed metal stud walls you are in for a treat. Not! But we will still let you come and help anyway.

Erick and I will be there again at noon on Thursday to let in anyone who feels like working. And Mark, our electrician will be there to do more of the electrical.

We need to rough in the plumbing for the kitchen. If you have experience with that and want to help, either let me know or just show up. We'll get the materials and have at it.

I think I'll post the latest iteration of the floor plan for the first floor. Hopefully Jeff will again make it so everyone can view them. Thanks Jeff. Really appreciated.

Wallace gave me the list of five more heavy machine shop machines he will be donating. I've done my best to squeeze them in, but I'm starting to think we need a bigger machine shop. Actually, I think we'll be OK with this plan.

Hey, I said I would post the upstairs floorplan. Here it is. You need Sweet Home 3D but it's free.

The rental spaces are not cast in stone. I just kind of assigned them by size, not placement. If you have one and want a different one, you can contact the person on that one or me. We'll try to make it right for everyone. Still a few left. If you want one, now would be a good time. Payment not due until you move in.

Too late, gotta get some sleep.

Dang, I meant to write this a lot earlier. Oh well, better late than never.

Not a lot to report today. I unloaded the forklift from the trailer and received Exhibiment's two new plotters. Matt is one of our newer members and will be renting a rather large space upstairs at TechShop RDU for his business, Exhibiments.

Erick and Mark did more electrical and Jeff Bartlett did even more cleaning. As if he hadn't done enough at the old location already. Thanks Jeff.

Wednesday will have me meeting the sheet rock guy at noon for measurements and a quote on the upstairs. I'll probably drop Erick off to do more electrical and head back home to work on the computer. It's time for us to get another lender and I need to send out some emails. It amazes me how much time I need to spend in front of these computers.

We should be getting phone and Internet on Friday and then I can be there daily. New phone number will be announced when we get it nailed down.

Matt will be back to do more framing at 5PM. Come join him if you like. He always appreciates the help.

Thanks,

Scott

2010-02-15 Really empty

TechShop Durham is really empty.

The last two trailers were pulled away from the loading docks today.

Moving the fork lift was another story. I won't tell the whole story, but it involves rain, slipping wheels on 2 x 10 boards used as a smooth surface over the ramps on the flatbed trailer, a flat trailer tire, going after an air compressor with the old Dodge truck which hasn't moved for months so... charging the truck battery, pouring gas into the carburetor, almost running out of gas... so filling up the truck, and the engine quitting... so pouring more gas into the carburetor... and finally the fork lift pulling itself up the ramps with the hydraulics on the forklift about a foot at a time using the tilt function and chains hooked to the front of the trailer. Oh, and then about an hour and a half sitting at Tire King waiting for the tire to be fixed. Another big thanks to Wallace Newton for enduring this adventure.

I get to unload it tomorrow. Oh boy.

Now we can concentrate on building TechShop RDU.

I'll be there around noon or so to unload the forklift. It's probably too early for tours, but you can always come to help. We should be framing and running electrical if you care to help.

Thanks,

Scott

Happy Valentines day and happy empty building day.

Only a few showed up today but we got it all done and as promised, closed the doors just after 5PM. Wallace Newton and I will move the forklift tomorrow and that will be it. Oh yeah, I'll move the TechShop truck too.

That's it for tonight. I'm going to rest a little. There will be more tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Scott

I wrote this on the 12th but some how it didn't get posted. Here it is, a bit late

Trailers 5 & 6 were moved today and 7 & 8 were put in place for filling. These will be the last trailers.

Saturday will be our last day of loading, I think, and you are invited to help once again. We have seen pretty much the same people every day and I want to thank them and everyone else that has stepped forward to help in this move.

We got another 35 or so pallets today, so we are set there.

I got an email today from someone who thought we had not announced our new location yet. In case anyone reading this does not know where we will be located, TechShop RDU will be located at 5905 Triangle Drive Raleigh, NC 27617

Walls are going up and wiring is being pulled and sheetrock will start next week and before you know it, we'll have a new TechShop built.

I can't wait to unload and plug in all that equipment in the new space. We'll be looking for some more investors very soon. Actually, now would be a good time.

Thanks,

Scott

2010-02-13 It's all packed!

We will be doing the final cleanup Sunday. Peter will open up early for anyone who wants to get a head start on cleaning.

We had to pack a little more carefully today and did actually fill up the 7th and 8th trailers. If we lined up all our trailers they would stretch 424 feet long! That's over one and one third times the length of a football field.

We will have a refuse pile and maybe some pallets and boxes to get rid of, but all in all, we're done.

Oh yeah, the forklift. We'll be moving that Monday probably.

The sheetrock guys will be finishing up the minor repairs on Sunday morning starting at at 8:30 and we will have to clean up behind them and then we're outta there!

We all owe so much to those who helped with the move. Thank you all so very much.

I wish I had thought of this sooner, but you are invited to join us for a cleaning party/goodby TechShop Durham 1st building party. Hey, it's Valentines Sunday too. I figure we'll send out for food and drinks for everyone who is there say around 1 or 2? We have vacuuming, mopping and then put the very last of the stuff on the last trailer then hang out and talk about the new TechShop RDU. Oh, by the way, no chairs or tables you know. It's an empty building.

Hope to see you Sunday,

Scott

2010-02-11

Wow, we're getting close.

We finished loading up trailers 5 & 6 today and will have them taken away and one more brought for us to fill.

But we need another ten or fifteen pallets on Friday. If you can bring some by it would help a lot. We know of some at NCSSM, but don't have a good way of moving them. If you can moe themfor us or know of any others you could grab, we sure would appreciate it.

This evening, a crew of aobut five dismantled theShopBot and moved it over to the new location. So it becomes the first major tool in TechShop RDU as it was the first major tool in TechShop Durham.

Matt and crew got more done on the new walls and tomorrow we'll start wiring the new electrical in those walls.

If you haven't been down to help you're missing a lot of fun. Uh............ yeah right. But there's still time. We should be loading the last trailer Friday and maybe finishing up on Saturday.

I have someone coming to do the sheetrock repairs where we put holes in the walls. They will be here Friday late morning.

Talk to you again tomorrow.

Scott

2010-02-10

Wallace says he needs 6 guys and two pickup trucks with 8 foot beds Thursday evening at 6 PM to move the ShopBot from here to there in one fell swoop. It will then again, be the first major machine in TechShop RDU as it was in TechShop Durham. History repeating itself.

If you can come, please do. You do not need to reply to me at scott@techshopdurham.com but you can if you like. It would be good to know ahead of time how many people will show up.

Trailers 5 and 6 are nearly full and we will likely fill them tomorrow and get at least one more, depending on how tightly the rest gets packed.

Matt says he will be there tomorrow evening as well to finish framing up all the new walls upstairs. It might go to Friday and then there is the downstairs to do. That should go a lot quicker. Just a few long walls downstairs.
