Anyone interested in learning how to make a handsome multi-hardwood cutting/serving board using the jointer, planer, shopbot and router table?
EXAMPLE:
I have 2 students that want to take this class. Anyone else? We will definitely cover techniques not normally taught such as jointing and planing rough stock, using veneer to make contrasting joints, use of a cabinet scraper rather than sandpaper for finishing, grain awareness and management.
This would be a good basic class for anyone who has taken the wood shop SBU and wants a beautiful, useful, no fail project to practice their new skills and impress their friends with their abilities.
You have enough students to write up a class document and start the process of posting it on the web site. Come see us at the front desk for assistance.
I'd like to chime in here to stress that making a cutting board is an extremely rewarding woodworking project. If you're unsure of your abilities or need a little push in the right direction to know the possibilities of the wood shop, this class would be an excellent starting point for you.
Friends and family alike will honestly marvel that "you MADE that!??!" when they see something nice like this in your kitchen.
It can be made functional in a matter of minutes, the time it takes to bolt a router to it. If that's any problem, I have two tables, each has a router already mounted, I can bring one in to use.

This sounds fun.
This sounds fun. However...
Is the router table actually functional now? When I took the Woodshop SBU a few weeks ago it was not.
