Interesting perspective on coworking spaces and free trial membership

http://dangerouslyawesome.com/2010/06/a-case-against-free-trial-coworking/

This article discusses the dangers of offering free trial memberships in your coworking space. TechShop's model seems to have figured this out from the start but it's fascinating to read *why* it works. The article also contains some great ideas for generating an exciting community and adding new members.

*"Run free events and make them awesome and open to anyone."
*"Partner with other local organizations and cross promote ideas, events, and opportunities..."
*"Start or support a local Jelly!"

etc.

Awesome post! I especially

Awesome post! I especially like the idea of
"Find a local bar or restaurant and make them your watering hole. They’ll appreciate you consistently bringing them customers, and you’ll love having a place you can walk into and have a good chance of bumping into someone you know"

I'd suggest contacting LoneRider Brewery right down the road from TechShop and seeing if they'd like to partner on some event. They have awesome beer. They totally could sponsor another member event.

Also, for those that don't know (like me) a "Jelly" is not a flavored gelatin. Read more here:

Jelly is a casual working event. It's taken place in over a hundred cities where people have come together (in a person's home, a coffee shop, or an office) to work for the day. We provide chairs and sofas, wireless internet, and interesting people to talk to, collaborate with, and bounce ideas off of.
