I sent an email to Erick on this, but I was wondering if some members had some vector art of the TechShop gear theme used on the background of the web site. I'd like to suggest using this theme on some huge murals for some of the walls at new facility. Anyone like this idea? Anyone HATE this idea? I've been sick for almost 2 weeks and unable to help with any of the move or the framing. I'm eager to help when painting is needed.
Laser Studio Layout/Shop Furtiture Meeting
A number of TechShop RDU members have expressed interest in helping to design needed furniture for the shop. We would also like to get everyone's input on the layout of the Laser Studio. Scott gave us a great workspace and i'm sure we all have ideas on how to organize and furnish this space.
So let's get together, order some food and help make TechShop RDU an even more wonderful place to work, play and create.

It might be cool if the wall
It might be cool if the wall at reflected the purpose of that area? Logo for entryway, graphic abstractions of wood working, metal working, sewing etc?
I can convert existing/new graphics to vactor art no problem, I can also design the new abstractions, I am very strong in graphics. I'm planning on being at the planning meeting on Mon if you'll allow a future member to attend.
Mark-- you hi-jacked the thread. ;)
Yo, Mark.... go get your own thread. (To all... I know Mark. He won't be offended). :D
Golden-- I like that idea too
That sounds good. I am a "future member" too. I'm showing up.. you should feel free, too. :))
Artwork??
I was coming back to add bitmaps to the request. I have no problems converting. Nobody has the TS graphics?

You'll probably have to email Erick directly to get the vector format (don't know his email, probably erick@techshoprdu.com though).

FWIW, getting to the new
FWIW, getting to the new location from RTP is pretty hellacious, unless there's some other shortcut I'm not aware of. Glenwood itself was the problem the last time I went up that way... for the first tour meeting. In any case I can't make it anyway, but 6:30 would be way too early to make it on time from work and not have to leave early for the day. 7:00 would probably give me enough time...
Not sure how many other folks work in RTP, but I figured I'd raise it... just 'cuz the old location was five minutes from the office. :)
Three minutes for me
I drive from North East Durham. Down 70 all the way from 85. It's three minutes longer for me on a regular basis. I wish our new location would be ten minutes closer for everybody, but considering what this location is doing for us financially, the extra time seems worth it for me. Since the new location is exactly 6.8 miles away from the first, that is the absolute most anyone will have to drive to get here from anywhere.
I hope everyone will embrace the new location as we build a better TechShop with larger workshops, lower private space rent and more so than the first, designed by and for the community.
Thanks,
Scott
Scott, that's good to hear...
Scott, that's good to hear... tho I meant during 5:30-6:00PMish rush hour traffic. What time of day are you talking about?
Not at rush hour, but...
I'm sure it is way worse during rush hour for everyone, no matter where they are coming from. I come in usually during lunch rush hour or so. And I go home like 10PM most of the time, so yeah my times will be different. However it is only 6.8 miles further no matter what, so it's probably not a huge difference for anyone. I could be wrong.
What is important is that pretty much everything else about the new location will help us become successful. I'd rather be successful in this location than unsuccessful in the last location.
I really hope the extra distance for some will not deter them from coming.
Thanks,
Scott
I think we're talking past
I think we're talking past each other Scott. The distance isn't the question, it's that particular part of town right at 5:30 maybe 6:00. When we went up for the first meeting at the new location it took us like 20 minutes to get from the light coming out of brier creek to the left turn at the light into the complex. Then another few minutes sitting at the light.
The point I'm trying to make is that, meetings pushed back to 7:00 or 7:30 will be much easier for me to make it to vs right at 6:30.
It's not gonna stop me from coming to TechShop, it just will change the timing a bit to avoid the rush.
Where in RTP?
From Davis Drive I would take I-540 to Glenwood and head south. Is the couple thousand feet on Glenwood that bad? If so, it looks like you could turn left onto Westgate and then right to come up on Triangle Drive from the back way.
I'm interested, as I had planned to take 540 to the new location.
Matt
Traffic-avoidant way
I was around the corner from Stirup Creek, too. Here's how I'd do it if the Raleigh-bound traffic was crawling:
TW Alexander to Page to Globe to Lumley
Lumley under 540 and under 70 to Westgate
Westgate to Ebenezer Church, then toward Durham on 70 for a few hundred feet to get to Triangle Dr.
Google Maps shows a connection between Westgate and Triangle but I haven't felt obstreperous enough to see if it really goes through-- there's a gravel pit or something back in there. There's an road gate at the Triangle Drive end, but it's open.
I'm on the south end of TW Alexander...
...I've taken Alexander to 40 to 540 to 70 at about 5:30 twice now. I don't get caught in any stopped traffic. I-540 gets backed up right after the 70 exit.
(So much for continuing to hijack my own thread). ;)
Ok, ok, ok. Clearly I just
Ok, ok, ok. Clearly I just need to avoid Brier Creek like the plague. I'm on page right off 40, took page up to Brier Creek Parkway & then right on 70. Sat at that light at 70 for a good long while. Probably should take 40 to 540, suffer with the one exit of crappy 40 traffic, I don't even need to move over a lane, and take that to glenwood.
Turn onto Lumley

You could do the same thing, but instead of coming all the way up Brier Creek Pkwy, turn on Lumley and take that down to 70/Glenwood.
Ok wow, how have I lived &
Ok wow, how have I lived & worked around RTP and Raleigh and not known Lumley hits Glenwood. Is that a new thing? :)
I'm also seeing International drive heads up that way... I might be able to avoid any kind of hint of traffic by going through those near-the-airport-warehouses. Huh.
