Source for local electronics parts

I'm just taking my first few steps into the world of building & tinkering with stuff, and have a perhaps obvious question: Where do you all get your electronics parts from? Is there a store to buy things like raw LEDs, capacitors, etc from in the Triangle area?

There's Radio Shack of course, but I'm hoping to find something with a broader selection. Thanks!

There used to be

Some years ago I worked in Raliegh, and there was a place on Millbrook. I don't know if they are still there, but you could google it.

Googling for such a thing is

Googling for such a thing is how I found TechShop. In short, unless I couldn't find it, it doesn't exist.

Also interested in local electronic junk stores

So if you find one, plz post it here. I'm a recent transplant from the bay area and currently experiencing severe withdrawl from electronic component stores like Halted and even Fry's at this point. But totally thrilled to find that TechShop is here!!

My suggestion for you, thunderclap, is to get a couple of resistor/capacitor assortment boxes from jameco. A little overpriced but not Radio Shack prices for sure and you get a nice plastic cabinet to hold your excess stuff from other projects.
Resistors: $30

Ceramics - $40

And if you need oddball stuff like 500V caps or HV transformers, don't forget the lost art of scrounging stuff from old PC power supplies or TV's.

I've been getting my parts

I've been getting my parts from www.digikey.com. It's amazing if you know what you want, and can distract yourself playing Civ 5 for a few days.

Shipping USPS is about $3, and gets here to Raleigh in 2-3 days (be careful not to select UPS, since it's the default, costs like $8, and takes 5 days).

I always get my electronics

I always get my electronics parts online, with so many parts to chose from I don't see the point to visit any local store. I had to deal with a broken refrigerator not too long ago, and all I had to do was to search for refrigerator parts on the internet and I got plenty options to chose from, besides, it was easier for me to figure out which would be the best since I could read their reviews as well.
