Car in shop?

I'd like to build a lightbar for the front of my car, but I have to weld onto the car itself. Is it possible to get a welder close to the car or get the car close to a welder? It will probably only be steel tubing so mig should be fine.

Sure thing

You can pull the car into the area behind TechShop and run our extension cord (big) out there and do the job. Please get one of our Facilities Maintenance personnel to help you get it out there and set up. Also, make sure to prevent any bystanders from being able to see the arc.

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks. What is the charge

Thanks.

What is the charge for a 1-day pass? Also, I've used a crappy flux core mig welder in the past, but I wasn't very good with it. Do you offer basic welding classes or instruction? If so, what's the charge for that? Do I supply my own tube stock or is it provided?

Thanks,
Ken

Bay

I just read that there is a vehicle bay. Could I just pull my car into the bay and work under cover?

Answers

Hi Ken,

I did not know you were not a member.

First, you will need to take the class for the equipment you want to use. Check our Classes page for pricing and availability that meets your schedule. There is a State Fair special going on until October 25th, 2009. That's tomorrow as I'm writing this. The class you want is on special now. You must buy the deal at TechShop or at the Fair by 10PM October 25, 2009. No exceptions.

You will provide all your own materials.

You will need to be a member to use the equipment. A one day membership pass is $30 but you can get your first month of membership for only $19.95. Check the Membership page for details.

The automotive bay has not been completed. That is why I have said you would pull your car into the area behind TechShop.

Hope this information helps.

Thanks,

Scott
