Does the TechShop Durham website choke your Iphone?

Ever since I updated to OS 3.0 on my iPhone I've noticed that the TS site chugs on my phone.

I was wondering if any other iPhone users have experienced such a slowdown.

It stinks as I check the forums often with my phone.

Thanks
-Lee

Yes, though I'm not sure it

Yes, though I'm not sure it was any different before the 3.0 upgrade. It's always been unbearably slow on my 1st gen iPhone.

The classes page, especially... it crashes Safari 90% of the time, and when it does render it didn't actually show the schedule section.

Just a thought

Try a real phone like a Palm Pre. Oooohhhh! I just went there.

Not trying to hate, but I don't have that issue with my Treo so maybe there's something with Safari that doesn't like the website. Maybe someone with dual experience can weigh in.

Does the Treo do Javascript

Does the Treo do Javascript by default? I just noticed the calendar is a dynamically parsing the google calendar. Maybe that's what it is.

Firebug profiling wasn't terribly useful as it was all in jQuery helper stuff.

Say whaa...

You just used a bunch of words I don't understand. Here's what I know: the site loads on my phone, my phone is shiny, your name is not mark. Now you have all the knowledge I have.

class page crashes on mine as well

subject says it all

it is slow on a $20,000+ workstation

I'm running Linux on a box with a bunch of Xeon processors, Firefox browser, and this slight is godawful slow. The browser chokes on rendering it but it doesn't peg my CPU. There is just something really inefficient about it but I don't know exactly what yet. It's every single page so it's either in the template or the CSS.

PS - I set up this account just to respond to this thread, and the CAPTCHA system here was designed by Klingon sadists. I've got 20/20 vision and it probably took well over a dozen tries to get the CAPTCHA right.

I think it's the rendering of

I think it's the rendering of the calendar in the right sidebar, but I haven't proven it, yet.

It's gotten to where I can't even open anything but the front page on my iPhone.

Also having the TechShop calendar on my google calendar means the iPhone version of Google Calendar's site chokes that, as well.... I think it's a lot of events or something.

Safari, Firefox, IE, Opera work great for me

Sorry, it must be something with your phones. I'm now running Opera 9.21, Safari 4.0.3, Firefox 3.5.2, and IE 7.0 on the same laptop all at the same time, and it's really snappy on all of them.
This is running on Windows XP, so that's all I can figure...

iphone

is this the 3G slowdown i'm reading about in the paper all the time?? AT&T doesn't have enough bandwidth available for all the apps or some such? my phone doesn't even take pictures, and its off all the time so the battery wont die....

No, happens even on Wifi...

No, happens even on Wifi... and I don't even have a 3G iPhone. :)

Well...

Todd is working on a new CSS for the site. It's taking him a while but hopefully when it's done it will fix the iPhone problem.

As far as the site not working on a $20,000+ workstation, that has to do with the browser you are using and possibly your OS as well.
Over a year ago I provided a Themes page to fix this problem as a bunch of Linux users were complaining.
Depending on the browser and OS, you will either want to choose "No Transparency" or "Standard Background".
